The Church of the Holy Sepulchre
A Photographic Essay by Jack PersekianDuring the wave of the global pandemic in 2020, the Jerusalem-based artist and photographer, Jack Persekian, was afforded the rare opportunity to conduct a detailed photographic study of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The absence of large groups of tourists and local worshippers, due to the restrictive visitation measures imposed during the early phase of the pandemic, allowed Persekian to document over 150 images of this magnificent complex dating back to the fourth century. The current online exhibit is a selection of 40 photographs from Persekian’s comprehensive study documenting the traditional site of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection on the Via Dolorosa.
